This Pre-Commercial Procurement (PCP) aims at developing robotics solutions for assisting elderly people with physical disabilities. In order to continue living in their own homes, the elderly require assistance by care staff in daily activities and often face multiple physical and mental disabilities. The solutions that will be developed in this PCP should improve cost-effectiveness in the homecare sector.
The market consultation was an essential part of the preparation on the SILVER PCP Challenge. With the market consultation the consortium wanted to get insight into the market; the state of the art and future developments of robotics in elderly care in order to prepare an adequate procurement with the right and feasible scope. In order to gain this knowledge all companies in the EU were invited to fill in a online questionnaire on the SILVER PCP Challenge. The Market Consultation questionnaire was open until 31 October 2012.
The output of the market consultation gave a full insight into the current state of the art of robotics. It allowed contributors to give feedback on how our current robotics definition could perhaps be modified making the SILVER desired outcome clearer. Additional feedback also allowed the consortia to take into account comments regarding the number of prototypes that would be created for testing through the final phase. It was indicated by those who participated that the budget for a SILVER solution was adequate.
